The Jazz Gallery Presents: Marcus Gilmore & David Virelles

Fresh off a week at the Village Vanguard, drummer Marcus Gilmore and pianist David Virelles will return to The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, July 30. The pair have developed a deep shared rhythmic language since their days in Steve Coleman & 5 Elements, conjuring music that can move fast and slow at the same time.

In addition to their recent collaborative work at the Vanguard, Virelles has recently released his latest solo album, Nuna (Pi). Emerging from his solitary practice during the pandemic lockdown, Nuna finds Virelles examining the piano’s dual nature of a drum and harmonic resonator.

Along with bassist Rashaan Carter, Virelles and Gilmore are sure to explore the ineffable territory where rhythm and color merge at the Gallery.

Drummer Marcus Gilmore, bassist Rashaan Carter, and pianist David Virelles play The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, July 30, 2022. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $25 general admission ($10 for members, FREE for SUMMERPASS holders); $35 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members, $10 for SUMMERPASS holders). Purchase tickets here.
