This Tuesday, September 13, The Jazz Gallery is pleased to host the finale of the 2022 Festival of New Trumpet Music featuring Keyon Harrold and Gen Next. 2022 marks the festival’s 20th season, and the first featuring extensive live performances in New York since the emergence of COVID-19.

Grounded in the traditions of bop and the rhythmic flow of hip-hop, Harrold is a trumpeter of expansive vision who epitomizes FONT’s mission of “presenting the broadest possible idea of what a trumpet player can do.” This summer, Harrold as been on the road with his working band, featuring peers of similarly eclectic tastes like guitarist Nir Felder (check them out at Central Park Summerstage, below). But for this performance, Harrold has assembled a new band Gen Next featuring a stable of young talents—trumpeter Brandon Volel, pianist Jahari Stamply, bassist Dan Winshall, and drummer Christian McGee.

This sharing of music between generations is sure to capture the spirit of Roy Hargrove and the many trumpeters who have cut their teeth on the Gallery stage.

The Festival of New Trumpet Music presents Keyon Harrold and Gen Next at The Jazz Gallery on Tuesday, September 13, 2022.
