The Jazz Gallery Presents: Kevin Sun

Since spring 2019, Kevin Sun has been playing regularly at Lowlands Bar in Gowanus, first monthly and now almost weekly. Over that time, he’s invited a rotating group of collaborators to explore an idiosyncratic book of tunes, both Sun originals and choice covers, such as the theme music for the classic video game “Pilotwings.”

This week, Sun returns to The Jazz Gallery with a septet of these recurring collaborators including trumpeter Adam O’Farrill, pianist Dana Saul, bassists Walter Stinson & Simón Wilson, and drummers Matt Honor & Kayvon Gordon. The group will be performing music from an upcoming double album, From All This Stillness (Endectomorph), as well as more of these choice covers (like music by Wayne Shorter and Ryuichi Sakamoto). Before coming out to hear the septet, check out the tune “Frozen in Profile” from the upcoming album.

Kevin Sun plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, April 21, 2023. The group features Mr. Sun on tenor saxophone, Adam O’Farrill on trumpet, Dana Saul on piano, Walter Stinson & Simón Wilson on bass, and Matt Honor & Kayvon Gordon on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. E.D.T. $20 general admission (FREE for members), $30 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members), $20 livestream access (FREE for members) for each set.
