This Saturday, November 20, The Jazz Gallery welcomes pianist Kengchakaj to our stage for the first time. A native of Bangkok and graduate of the Manhattan School of Music, Kengchakaj grounds his music in traditional Thai practices, jazz improvisation, and experimental timbres, exploring notions of unity within contradictions. In 2019, he released his debut album Lak Lan, placing these juxtapositions center stage:

For his Gallery performance this weekend, Kengchakaj will be reimagining material from Lak Lan, as well as showcasing new compositions. With a band of combustible improvisers, the rich, contrasting layers of Kengchakaj’s music are sure to spark creative dialogue.

Kengchakaj’s Lak Lam plays The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, November 20, 2021. The group features Kengchakaj on piano, Sirintip on vocals, Yuma Uesaka on tenor saxophone, Caroline Davis on alto saxophone, Chien Chien Lu on vibraphone, Perrin Grace on bass, and Nolan Byrd on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. EST. $15 general admission (FREE for members), $25 reserved table seating ($10 for members), $20 livestream access (FREE for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
