The Jazz Gallery Presents: Bobby Avey

Photo by Ian DouglasBobby Avey is a pianist of deep imagination and clear intellect. Since his time as a student at the SUNY Purchase Conservatory of Music, Avey was collaborated with the great, exploratory saxophonist Dave Liebman in both performance and on record. Last spring, Avey released Authority Melts from Me, a recording of a suite of music inspired by Haitian Vodou traditions and Haitian history from colonial times to today. Check out this Jazz Speaks interview with Avey to learn more about this fascinating album.On Thursday, June 4th, Avey returns to The Jazz Gallery with a quartet featuring John O'Gallagher on alto sax, Thomson Kneeland on bass, and Jordan Perlson on drums.
