The Jazz Gallery Presents: Angelica Sanchez Nonet

This Friday, May 3, The Jazz Gallery is pleased to welcome pianist Angelica Sanchez and her nonet to our stage for two sets. For well over two decades, Sanchez has cultivated a distinct and exploratory approach to improvisation, forging fruitful collaborations with performers like saxophonist Sam Newsome, bassist John Hébert, and drummer Tom Rainey. Writing in the New York Times, Nate Chinen described her music as "eas[ing] from open abstraction to simmering incantation so gracefully that the dividing line effectively disappears."Sanchez's nonet is a relatively recent project, and her most expansive musical canvass to date. The band features a number of distinctive soloists from Sanchez's peer group, including saxophonist Chris Speed, clarinetist Ben Goldberg, and trumpeter Kenny Warren. Don't miss this opportunity to hear Sanchez's richly-textured compositions brought to life by a top-flight large ensemble. The Angelica Sanchez Nonet plays The Jazz Gallery on Friday, May 3, 2019.
