A look inside The Jazz Gallery

This weekend, The Jazz Gallery welcomes Steve Coleman & Five Elements back to our stage for two nights of performances. Earlier this year, the group released their latest record, Live at the Village Vanguard, Vol. 1 (The Embedded Sets) (Pi Recordings). Following in the footsteps of the likes of John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, Five Elements’ Vanguard recording also showcases the group in top form, able to turn collectively on a dime through spontaneous flights of fancy. Whether playing new material, like “Embedded #1,” or old favorites, like Bunky Green’s “Little Girl I’ll Miss You,” is as fleet-footed and unpredictable as ever.

Steve Coleman & Five Elements plays The Jazz Gallery on Saturday, October 20, and Sunday, October 21, 2018. The group features Mr. Coleman on alto saxophone, Jonathan Finlayson on trumpet, Anthony Tidd on bass, and Sean Rickman on drums. Sets are at 7:30 and 9:30 P.M. each night. $25 general admission ($10 for members), $35 reserved cabaret seating ($20 for members) for each set. Purchase tickets here.
